The Hang Seng Index opened 1 point lower at 25,976, then saw a struggle between bulls and bears, falling as low as 119 points to 25,858 and rising as high as 107 points to 26,086. It closed down 52 points, or 0.2%, at 25,925. The Technology Index rose 37 points, or 0.76%, to 4,939. Total market turnover was HK$251.6 billion.


Last Friday, the Hang Seng Index did not fall further before reaching 25,639, failing to reach the measured decline target of 25,509. A rebound is expected today, with a target of 26,189. The full resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and oil prices are key factors. Oil prices need to fall back to around US$85 for Hong Kong stocks to have a chance to break through again. The Hang Seng Index is expected to fluctuate within the 1,000-point range of 25,500 to 26,500. With only four trading days this week, investor sentiment is leaning towards caution.


European stocks were pressured in late trading, with British, French, and German stocks falling 0.56%, 0.19%, and 0.19% respectively.


Apple shares were pressured, and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and rising international oil prices contributed to the mixed performance of US stocks on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 118 points lower, then initially rose 122 points to a high of 49,353, before quickly reversing course and falling as much as 201 points to a low of 49,029. The S&P 500 fell as much as 0.26%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite dropped as much as 0.57%, but both subsequently hit new intraday and closing highs.


At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 62 points, or 0.13%, to 49,167; the S&P 500 rose 8 points, or 0.12%, to 7,173; and the Nasdaq Composite rose 50 points, or 0.2%, to 24,887.


The US dollar index fluctuated, falling as much as 0.32% to 98.21, while the euro rose 0.31% to $1.1758 before remaining largely unchanged; the yen fluctuated, holding steady at 159.4 per dollar. Bitcoin briefly touched a 12-week high, rising 1.61% to $79,488, but subsequently reversed course and fell back by more than 1%.
