Hong Kong stocks rose for three consecutive trading days at the start of the year, accumulating a gain of 1,079 points or 4.21%. With strong performance in overseas stock markets and the Shanghai Composite Index reaching a 10-year high, the Hang Seng Index opened 155 points higher on Tuesday and continued to climb, reaching a high of 26,858 points, a gain of up 510 points, before closing up 363 points or 1.37% at 26,710 points. The Technology Index rose 83 points or 1.45% to 5,825 points. Turnover on the main board was HK$291.7 billion. Net inflow of northbound capital was nearly HK$2.9 billion, a decrease of 84% from the previous day, but the total net inflow over the three days exceeded HK$25 billion.


The recent resurgence of momentum in Hong Kong stocks is mainly related to the relatively strong rebound in A-shares. The outlook for Hong Kong stocks is expected to remain positive. If the Hang Seng Index can break through the 27,000-point mark, it will test the resistance level of 27,381 points, the high point of last October and the top of the consolidation range.


HSBC's share price hit a new high in over 17 years, closing up 3.12% at HK$128.8.


European stock markets generally performed well, with UK, French, and German stocks rising 1.18%, 0.09%, and 0.32% respectively. According to Bloomberg statistics, the Japanese stock market's Nikkei and Nikkei indices rose 3.8% and 4.3% respectively in the first two trading days of the year, marking their best start since at least 1990.


Awaiting the release of US employment data later this week, US stocks surged on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average breaking intraday highs and setting new closing records. The Dow Jones closed above 49,000 points for the first time. After a slight 10-point gap up at the open, the Dow Jones extended its gains to as much as 532 points, reaching a high of 49,509 points. The S&P 500 rose as much as 0.68%, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fluctuated upwards, rising as much as 0.7%.


U.S. stocks closed higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 484 points, or 0.99%, to 49,462; the S&P 500 gained 42 points, or 0.62%, to 6,944; and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 121 points, or 0.65%, to 23,547.


The U.S. dollar index rose as much as 0.37% to 98.63; the euro fell 0.33% to $1.1684; and the yen dropped 0.26% to 156.79 per dollar. Bitcoin retreated 3% to $91,543.
