The Hang Seng Index opened 43 points higher at 25,804, then briefly fell 111 points to 25,649 before recovering in the afternoon, rising as much as 230 points to 25,990. It closed up 175 points, or 0.68%, at 25,935. The Tech Index rose 80 points, or 1.45%, to 5,615. Main board turnover was HK$179.3 billion.


The Hang Seng Index faces significant resistance at the 50-DMA (26,205). Lower trading volume reflects that institutional investors, having already reaped substantial profits this year, are seeking to preserve their gains and are adopting a more conservative approach. This situation may continue until the end of the year. Therefore, it is believed that Hong Kong stocks will struggle to break through resistance levels in the short term and will be unlikely to follow overseas markets upwards, instead maintaining a fluctuating pattern. Support is seen at the 25,200 level.


Meta's stock price rebounded sharply after reports of significant spending cuts surfaced; meanwhile, initial jobless claims in the U.S. fell to a three-year low last week, diminishing the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate cut. U.S. stocks fluctuated and softened on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened slightly higher by 5 points, then extended its gains to as much as 166 points, reaching a high of 48,049, before falling as much as 189 points to a low of 47,692. The S&P 500 fell as much as 0.33%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped as much as 0.35%.


European stocks rose across the board, with the UK, French, and German markets gaining 0.19%, 0.43%, and 0.79%, respectively.


At the close of U.S. trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 47,850, down 31 points or 0.07%; the S&P 500 rose 7 points or 0.11% to 6,857; and the Nasdaq Composite gained 51 points or 0.22% to 23,505.


The US dollar index rose as much as 0.23% to 99.08, while the euro fell 0.26% to $1.1642; expectations of a Japanese interest rate hike rose, and the yen rose 0.48% to 154.51 against the dollar. Bitcoin retreated as much as 3.3% to $90,982.

It closed the day up 62 points, or 0.24%, at 25,978; the Tech Index rose 36 points, or 0.75%, to 4,902. Total market turnover was HK$236.7 billion. For the week, the Hang Seng Index fell 182 points, or 0.69%. Hong Kong stocks rebounded on Friday but failed to recover the 26,000-point mark. The Hang Seng Index broke through the descending channel earlier this month with an upward gap (25,254 to 25,668).
