Hong Kong stocks failed to hold the 24,000 mark at the close of last Friday. The Hang Seng Index opened 169 points or 0.7% lower at 23,900 points, and then the decline widened to 379 points, hitting a low of 23,690 points before stabilizing. The decline narrowed significantly in the afternoon, and the whole day fell 153 points or 0.63% to 23,916 points; the technology index rose in the afternoon, and closed down 17 points or 0.33% at 5,216 points. The main board of the market traded more than HK$267.8 billion.

The weakness of the Hong Kong dollar triggered the weak side convertibility guarantee again, and the HKMA entered the market twice during the New York session. Funds flowed out of Hong Kong mainly because the geopolitical situation eased and the demand for risk aversion decreased, but the Hong Kong stock market had a strong trading earlier, which was mainly driven by Northbound funds. As long as Northbound funds are still willing to speculate on Hong Kong stocks, it is believed that the trend will not suddenly deteriorate. Investors should pay close attention to the performance of technology stocks, capital flows and global markets, especially the trend of US stocks after the opening.

Last Friday, the Hang Seng Index failed to hold the 20-DMA (24,009). Today, 23,859 points is the key support level. In the short term, it will fluctuate in the range of 23,700-24,373 points. The two highs of 24,439 and 24,533 points in the Hang Seng Daily Chart in June formed a small double top, with the neckline at 23,185 points. If it falls below the neckline, it can reach 21,900 points.

The U.S. stock market was closed last Friday (July 4, 2025) because of Independence Day, which is a national holiday in the United States. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq usually stop trading on this day. It is mainly related to the weakness of heavyweight technology stocks. The dividend stocks that previously drove the market upward have little room for growth. It is expected that investors tend to speculate in stocks rather than the market. The Hang Seng Index will be in a short-term trend.
